Chester, a quaint community, famous for autumn festivities.
In 1719 eighty persons formed an association to secure a tract of land in the so called "Chesnut Country". In 1722 the town was incorporated under its present name, "Chester" Chester once included Candia, set off in 1763.
Chester is a rural quaint community only minutes away from shopping and commerce located in Derry and Manchester. Chester residents have become famous for their annual halloween scarecrow celebration where well over 500 scarecrows don the landscape throughout the community. Chester gets thousands of visitors each year touring the town to view these creations, each one being unique and quite entertaining.
Elementary and middle school students attend Chester Academy which is public. High school students attend Pinkerton Academy, a privately operated school in Derry that contracts with the town.
